October has long been designated as breast cancer awareness month. This particular cancer is especially significant to the MAC Legacy organization as we have many friends and family who have been affected by this disease. As we all reflect on breast cancer this month, we want to remind you to get screened. A report from the CDC in June 2021 reported a decline of breast and cervical cancer screening, particularly among certain racial and ethnic women of low income, since the onset of COVID-19. Experts fear this lack of early detection may have negative results on this population. MAC Legacy, along with cancer experts, urge you to encourage those under your care to maintain their routine health care services during this pandemic. Schedule your own mammogram as soon as possible. Early detection works.
