The home health final rule from CMS is expected to be released today. Will it be full of tricks or treats for the home health industry? No one knows for sure. The expected treats are increases in the payment for agencies who submit quality data. CMS is also establishing a permanent rule in which certain non-physician practitioners may order and certify Medicare home health services. Those are definitely sweets for the industry. Home Health Value Based Purchasing is expected to become nationwide. Agencies will need to prepare quickly for this, if the program is finalized, because the quality results of this coming year will determine payment bonuses or losses in CY 2024.
