Among the 27 new items slated for the new version of OASIS in January is O0110 – Special Treatments, Procedures, and Programs. This very useful data collection item identifies special treatments, procedures, and programs that apply to the patient during the time period under consideration (on admission, at discharge, or within the last 7 days) AND are a part of the patient’s current care or treatment plan in the patient’s home or other settings. The item excludes services provided solely in conjunction with a surgical or diagnostic procedures. Previous data sets have not included this level of comprehensive assessment of special treatments, procedures, and programs. This has required assessing clinicians to document these in other areas of the assessment, and consider their impact on the current home health treatment plan. Item O0110 includes cancer treatments, respiratory therapies, certain medications, transfusions, dialysis, and IV access. Each specific category has its own guidance detailing what is to be considered for an accurate answer. Clinicians and other home health staff will need to be educated on this important new item prior to implementation on January 1, 2023. It’s right around the corner.
