Hospice Series 4 – Better Bedside Care: Hospice Visits in the Last Days of Life Webinar

Hospice care in the final days of life is essential to prioritize comfort, provide emotional support, maintain dignity and autonomy, facilitate effective communication, offer family support, and ensure continuity of care.  High-quality bedside care is critical in delivering these aspects, fostering a compassionate and peaceful end-of-life experience for patients and their loved ones.  Increased visits and compassionate care in the final days of life aims to improve the patient’s physical comfort, extends emotional support to patient and caregivers, and promotes a peaceful and meaningful end-of-life experience for the patient and their loved ones.

There has been a notable shift towards enhancing the quality of patient care during the last days of life in hospice settings.  This evolution has been driven by the increased recognition of the positive impact that compassionate bedside care can have on individuals and their loved ones during this delicate phase.  As a result, hospice providers have made concerted efforts to facilitate more frequent and meaningful visits to patients nearing the end of their lives.  Increased hospice visits in the last days of life hold immense value in providing comfort, support, and dignity to patients nearing the end of their journey.  These visits also offer an opportunity for hospice professionals to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the hospice patient.   By attending this session, hospice professionals will be able to learn the skills needed to ensure that every patient receives the dignified, compassionate, and individualized care they deserve in their final days.  Discussion will include guidance on effective communication with the patient and caregivers regarding goals, preferences, and concerns along with pain and symptom management techniques tailored to the individual needs of the patient.   Attending this session will enhance the hospice professional’s competence at the bedside of the dying patient and ensure a patient’s last moments are filled with compassion and dignity.
