The US Department of Health and Human Services has extended the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency for an additional 90 days effective July 20, 2021.  This is the sixth renewal of the PHE since the pandemic was declared in 2020.  In particular, the Delta strain of SARS-CoV-2 is now the dominant strain found in the US.  According to an article in Yale Medicine, it states that fully vaccinated people appear to have protection against this strain.  However, Delta is more contagious than other strains and unvaccinated individuals are at the greatest risk.  The CDC has a COVID data tracker which shows the level of community transmission by county.  Home health and hospice providers must remain diligent in their use of infectious disease measures to protect employees, patients and the community as the trend of hospitalizations related to this virus has recently increased by 32%.
